Ataxia/Unsteady Gait – Neurology

Causes of ataxia:
– Acute: acute cerebellar ataxia, anticonvulsant toxicity, Gullian-Barre syndrome, brain tumour, trauma, cerebellar abscess, brainstem encephalitis, acute demyelinating encephalomyelitis, stroke, lead encephalopathy, tick paralysis, alcohol/drug use, conversion disorder, labyrinthitis
– Intermittent: benign paroxysmal vertigo, seizure, basilar migraine, inborn errors of metabolism
– Chronic: Congenital malformations (Arnold Chiari malformation, Dandy-Walker syndrome, encephalocele, cerebellar vermis agenesis, cerebellar aplasia/dysplasia), hereditary ataxias (ataxia-telangiectasia, Roussy-Levvy disease, Friedreich ataxia), neurodegenerative disease
